“Yobongo makes it fun and easy to chat with people nearby on your iPhone. There aren’t rooms to select, friends to find, or people to follow. We magically connect you to the conversation that’s happening around you.”

It’s blowing up on Twitter but a lot of people seem to be freaked out by the whole idea, thinking that the app will be an easy avenue for that creeper across the bar to get to know you better.

The video was beautifully done and successfully communicates the app’s true vision.

A New Look & Feel But The Same Great Taste!

If you’ve been here before, and you’re reading this in early 2011, you’ve probably noticed a complete overhaul of my site’s design. Partly from boredom, partly from insanity, but mostly from the need of organization in my life, I’ve not only upgraded (I hope!) the look and feel of my personal website, I’ve also tied in a few features that should help de-clutter my digital life.

I’m currently working on a few very exciting projects and will use this platform to share my progress, trials, and also anything I find interesting along the way.

Charles, what are these exciting projects you dare say good chap? Well, some are commercial ventures, others are open source. I’ll soon dedicate a nice chunk of this site to hosting the open source products along with demos, documentation, etc.

“Why Starting Justin.tv Was A Really Bad Idea.”

TechCrunch featured an interesting article written by guest author, Justin Kan, founder of Justin.tv.

If you’ve never heard of it, Justin.tv allows you to stream live content to viewers around the globe using your webcam.

In his article, Kan dives into why he believes starting the company was a bad idea, mostly because he didn’t have a plan. This thinking is in direct opposite to the 37signals‘ mantra of “Planning is guessing.” I tend to side with 37signals’ philosophy on this issue, but it’s always nice to hear the opposing side’s view.

If you’re into startups and entrepreneurialism the article’s a good read, particularly the sections in which Kan lists exactly why he believes the whole idea was a bad one.

“…Nobody really likes investing in hits based businesses, because it requires the continual generation of new hits to be successful (instead of, say, building a platform like eBay or Google whose success is built on masses of regular users).”
